Let's get you in.
Sculklantis is our survival world — an ancient city, a village with far too many cats, and whatever your child decides to build next to it.
Right now there is one way in, and it is the easy one: being at the house, on our Wi-Fi. If your child has been invited over, that is the whole plan — it takes about a minute once they are here.
At the house — this works today
If your child is coming to the house — a party, a playdate, an afternoon that got away from everyone — this is the whole guide. On our Wi-Fi, Minecraft finds the world by itself: no address to type, no settings to change, and nothing to undo when you get home. Find your device below.
If it does not turn up
- Sculklantis is not in the Friends tab
- Check the device is on our Wi-Fi and not its own mobile data — a phone still on 5G cannot see the room it is standing in. Then give it another few seconds; it can be slow to appear.
- Minecraft is asking your child to sign in
- That is the free Microsoft account, and it only happens the first time they play with other people. Do that part first — see “Before you start” below.
- Still nothing
- Come and find us. We are in the same building and it is usually a ten-second fix.

This device uses the regular Minecraft (Bedrock Edition on the box).
At the house — works today
Nothing to set up. On our Wi-Fi the world finds itself — no address, no settings.
- Get the device onto our Wi-Fi. Ask us and we will get the device onto it. This is the only step that needs us.
- Open Minecraft and choose Play.
- Open the Friends tab. Sculklantis is sitting there under the heading "LAN Games" — that is Minecraft's name for games it has found in this building. Give it a few seconds to appear.
- Select it and play. There is no address to type.
Playing from home
Not switched on yet. The steps for this device are written and checked, and they go up here the day the server opens — until then they would only send you to a door that is still shut.

It should behave like a big phone — same Friends tab, no address. This is the one device we have not yet watched do it.

PC or Mac — Minecraft: Java Edition Ready
This device uses Minecraft: Java Edition — the separate PC and Mac version.
At the house — works today
The one device that does not find the world by itself. It needs a short address typed in, and we will give it to you when you get here.
- Get the computer onto our Wi-Fi.
- Ask us for the address. It is an inside-the-house address — it would not work anywhere else, so it is not printed on a public page. Ten seconds, and we are happy to do the typing.
- In Minecraft click Multiplayer, then Add Server, and enter it exactly as we give it to you.
- Click Done, then join.

At the house a console needs NOTHING set up — no DNS, no address. It is the same Friends tab as a phone. A console only ever needs a network setting for playing from home.
- Get the device onto our Wi-Fi. Ask us and we will get the device onto it. This is the only step that needs us.

Before you start
These two apply however your child joins — at the house today, or from home once that opens.
A free Microsoft account
On PlayStation, Switch, phones and tablets, Minecraft asks your child to sign in with a free Microsoft account the first time they play online. Do that part first — the server needs it to know who they are.
Your child's name will have a dot in front of it
Players joining from a console, phone, tablet or Windows show up with a dot before their gamertag — CoolKid 99 appears as .CoolKid_99, with spaces turned into underscores. That is normal, and not a sign anything went wrong. Java Edition players appear with their plain name.
Playing from home
Not switched on yet. The steps for every console, phone and computer are written and checked — but the server does not answer from outside the house yet, so we are not printing an address that would only fail on you.
Everything above is the part that works today, and it needs no address at all.
